I have seen even Nasa uses Spaaaaaace as a word.

Anyone have an explanation?

I'm not sure, but I suspect that the Portal 2 reference might itself be a reference to the recurring Muppet Show sketch "Pigs in Space" (pronounced Piiigs innn Spaaace).
