That's right, in the BIOS - it's independent of the OS being run, or indeed if there is any OS at all (which is the case if the machine is turned off and charging.)



HP also have this in bios. If you download their "Biosconfigutility64.exe" and run it with argunents, you can switch the behaviour on the fly without requiring a visit to bios

My son's Lenovo laptop, bought from Costco, also has this feature.


In the BIOS? From what I've read, Thinkpads at least need a driver and utility to set the discharge/charge thresholds.


Yes, I don't have it to hand, but I'm pretty sure the charge limit even works when the laptop is shut down.

It's not a ThinkPad, but an IdeaPad Slim 5i i7-1355U touchscreen.
