I just saw this on Reddit where someone posted screenshots of the change:

That is a massive change. Pointing to a commercial product of theirs and locking the conversation immediately is very off-putting.

Well, one is enterprise and the other is community version. Is it still the same if you compare same editions? How does it look now on the enterprise edition? Did they move functionality from the community edition to the enterprise edition?

latest versions of minio has had the admin console removed entirely and all that exists is a simple object browser that shows buckets and objects.

No longer do you have the ability to manage the cluster. Key things like users, groups, replication, policy, etc.

As I have recently began adopting minio in a more serious use case, getting features ripped out without notification is pretty harsh.

Obviously minio is free to do what they wish but it definitely makes me reconsider adoption of their technology.

Removal of features with no notification or explanation is really hurting the product and companys reputation. What says they dont break replication or enforce limits on cluster size or drive next?

What are other peoples thoughts?

The community edition is not robbed of its value by this move. They provide a CLI tool (mc) for those admin tasks which previously could be solved via dashboard.

I have several minio instances deployed to k8s for small to medium, and non-profit projects. Easy to deploy, no problems or outages, yet.

But anecdotally i remember multiple occasions, where a quick tour of the dashboard convinced peers, that minio was the right tool for the job.

From my point of view it is much more questionable, that they "dare" to advertise the paid version with a 96.000 USD p.a. "platform fee" plus additional cost if you use more than 400TB. Small fish need tools, too.

They literally remove features, and you defended them by saying "there's CLI available"?

The community edition will also only see security updates, if any, moving forward.

Also, if anyone is looking for replacements:

The fact minio is being so silent is questioning what's really going on here

Hey, sorry for the delay, but there's a screenshot in my recent blog post: https://jamesoclaire.com/2025/05/27/how-to-self-host-your-ow...

Where did you read this?

They said it in Slack. There is a screenshot on my own blog post here:

Great, we can still create and browse buckets! /s
