You surfaced memories of childhood me installing RedHat 5.2, carefully selecting packages and X config options, getting it wrong, not knowing how to get back to that magical installation UI, and reinstalling the OS just to have another crack at it.

Eventually I figured out how to launch that xconfig utility and found some sane defaults, and was thrilled when I finally saw the stippling pattern or even a window manager.
