Apple thinks modularity hinders device longevity. We don’t (fairphone.com)

I agree with their views on modularity and would like to see this legislated for all devices. I recently bought a little boom-box and one notable problem with it is the lack of a user serviceable battery. Once that battery fails most people will just throw it in the bin. "Old School" boom boxes had a removable panel to install batteries. If water proofing for the IP{xx} rating is too hard just put the battery contacts further apart so that at worst it drains the battery a little if submerged.

I have two Android phones I have been tinkering around with and noticed that the one with the 10,000mAh battery uleFone has been discharging a little bit faster each week, so it won't be long before it goes in the bin and I've only had it about a year. To Fairphones point disposable smart phones can't be very good on the environment.

As a side note, I would love to see Fairphone also include a de-googled image by default on their devices that supports open source application repositories. Maybe F-Droid? I do not know how many people depend on the Google services or could be weened off of it or migrated to alternative services.

Fairphone partnered with Murena to provide that: https://murena.com/america/shop/smartphones/brand-new/murena...

Nice! I will search around to see if there is also a US company doing this so I do not have to remove payment restrictions to sign up. My bank optionally blocks anything outside of the US to improve security.
