Some creationists would say that cancer isn't necessarily proof of poor design but a consequence of inherited sin. If we were still perfect the way Adam was, we would not have cancer.

Note, I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with the position, just presenting it as I understood it.

And the fact that cancer occurs not only in humans but in animals too? who exactly is being punished then?

>I work from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m

That's sad.

Signs? Those are normal ways of writing? What the hell? Is everything AI now?

Problem is, everything gets poisoned by AI these days, and it gets worse when there's some sort of reward attached. Karma points in the case of Reddit and HN, in Wikipedia you got a ton of commercial actors and propaganda/distortion campaigns.

And that's why everyone on the receiving end of the AI slop deluge is so paranoid.

Did you read it though? They explain very well their reasoning with real examples.

They stopped Marlo.

Clicked here just hoping for a wire reference. RIP Snot Boogey

McNulty: So your boy's name is what?

Man On Stoop: Snot.

McNulty: You call the guy Snot?

Man On Stoop: Snot Boogie.

McNulty': He like the name?

Man On Stoop: What?

McNulty: Snot Boogie. [man shrugs] This kid, whose mamma went to the trouble of christening him Omar Isaiah Betts. You know, he forgets his jacket, so his nose starts running, and some asshole, instead of getting him a Kleenex, he calls him Snot. So he's Snot forever. Doesn't seem fair.

Man On Stoop: Life just be that way, I guess.

McNulty: So, who shot Snot?

Man On Stoop: I ain't goin' to no court. [shakes his head] Motherfucker ain't have to put no cap in him, though.

McNulty: Definitely not.

Man On Stoop: I mean, he could've whooped his ass like we always whoop his ass.

McNulty: I agree with you.

Man On Stoop: He goin' kill Snot, Snot been doin' the same shit I don't know how long. Kill a man over some bullshit. I'm sayin', every Friday night in an alley behind the Cut Rate, we rollin' bones, you know? I mean all them boys, we roll til late.

McNulty: Alley crap game, right?

Man On Stoop: Like every time, Snot, he'd fade a few shooters, play it out til the pot's deep. Snatch and run.

McNulty: What, every time?

Man On Stoop: Couldn't help hisself.

McNulty: Let me understand. Every Friday night, you and your boys are shooting craps, right? And every Friday night, your pal Snot Boogie... he'd wait til there's cash on the ground and he'd grab it and run away? You let him do that?

Man On Stoop: We'd catch him and beat his ass but ain't nobody ever go past that.

McNulty: I gotta ask ya: if every time Snot Boogie would grab the money and run away, why'd you even let him in the game?

Man On Stoop: What?

McNulty: If Snot Boogie always stole the money, why'd you let him play?

Man On Stoop: Got to. This America, man

An hour, give or take.

But I'm not a great cook, just a guy with a severely limited repertoire.

It would take considerably longer otherwise.

Which is?

Here[1], you can learn about it. It's simple, but not easy.

For me, it means buying Fidelity 0 funds in a Roth IRA and not selling them.

Autoinvest diversely and don't sell. Minimize transactions. Never invest based on the news.

Deepseek is really good, and I've found it consistently better than ChatGPT. I don't know what the hype behind OpenAI is. I don't know if they were better and got worse, because I could swear ChatGPT was good at some point in the past.

I am thrilled with DeepSeek V4 Flash via API as it's very good and very cheap. But for everyday advanced tasks and coding even DS V4 Pro is nowhere near GPT 5.5 nor Claude Opus 4.7 (and never mind 4.8). I think V4 is a great release but the frontier is moving fast, too.

Make yourself indispensable.

Kinda funny how the last programmers who'll get replaced are the guys taking calls from people who don't understand what they're saying, yoloing scripts, live editing shit in prod and all the other shit that the "pure engineers" doing greenfield development more or less sneered at over the years.

Are there people here who don't use WhatsApp at all? Meta products are really pissing me off, but everyone I know is on WhatsApp.

It's uncommon in the US, iMessage and SMS/MMS/RCS are the primary text chat systems here that everyone uses from their phones.

I meant out the US

I don't use any WhatsApp. I also don't use any Meta products. I don't give a fuck who else is on them.

Does nobody have standard text messaging outside the US? Delete the app, and tell your friends to just send and SMS? What's so special about WhatsApp that everybody can't get off of it?

Just send sms? Like video calls, custom emojis, reactions, groups, business accounts with online catalog and checkout process, channels, custom status, etc all that with sms? Come on now, get real.

Maybe telegram or signal if you're going to propose an alternative but sms is ridiculous.

Absolutely. No accounts on Meta properties ever. My primary form of communication is actually the phone, followed by email. Have you tried actually calling people?

I don't use it at all. The only Meta app I do use is Instagram and I'm rarely on there to be honest. Don't use Tik-Tok either, FWIW.

TLDR: Yes

Just because everyone you know uses it, doesn't mean they can't use something else with you, maybe even understand for themselves why they shouldn't use Meta.

And it's very easy to do: you make a message for everyone you have as contact and tell them that whoever wants to continue to talk with you can continue doing so on signal, simplex, matrix, or whatever, explaining why you made this decision(meta bad, blah, blah) and tell them that in one month you'll delete your meta account(s).

At the end of that month, you do it. Remove any trace and very important: DON'T GO BACK on your decision(1 week, 1 month, 1 year) after. Whoever wants to talk, will do so wherever you told them to find you. Those that don't, well... they won't. And you'll also find out who actually cares enough to talk with you.

Talking from experience.

They really just copy other people.
