Local and containerised, without internet access.

effectively, that means it's a VM not a container

because sharing the kernel ultimately means all the devices come along for the ride which give all kinds of fancy ways to communicate with the outside world - network is just the start

I think micro-VMs are the future here, but they need heavy adaptation from their current usage.

The abbreviation "BoM" (bill of materials) is commonly used in engineering. It's also pronounced just how you might suspect. I wonder if it's consciously avoided in sectors like these.

I've definitely made the effort when traveling for work to always say "Bill of Materials" if I'm doing any work in an airport.

A bit like how capsaicin was evolved to prevent things being eaten by mammals, but... Well.. humans came along and developed a taste for it.

"Evolution! Can you give me capsaicin, to deter mammals? I want birds to spread my seeds!"

They got the ultimate seed-spreading, since we farm them.

This kind of structure is also important when writing. You guide the reader through stages of awareness and understanding.

Science is like that too, it's mostly very tedious and repetitive work.

Generally someone comes out with something other than keep trying from a scientific experiment though, right? Like an hypothesis and a test and stuff like that

Batteries are more than a choking hazard; they can cause severe internal chemical burns, gut perforation and so on initiated by electrolysis.

I think the idea is that the baby would be in the bassinet, the parent would have the remote, not the other way around.

It's well within the realm of possibility that a parent, holding the remote, approaches the bassinet and sets the remote down in a location where it's reachable by the child. Perhaps even in the bassinet! And especially so if the wireless remote is the only way to operate the bassinet: are you going to walk across the room to turn it on?

Not to mention, new parents are often some of the most sleep deprived. The burden should be on the manufacturer to make these safe. And it's not even that hard: just use one of the clasps on the battery compartment that requires a coin or key to open rather than just your fingernails.

There's a lot of work to be done.

I think with AI and the continued availability of VBA, people will create a lot of new monstrosities.

Kinda disagree. The code I had worked with was super unoptimized and difficult to run because there was just enormous amounts tribal knowledge that was just gone over the years as the company evolved. Also basically all the original devs had left. LLMs can help with that so much they know random minute details of lets say ADOdb and whatnot.

Generalist jobs are all about that System 2 thinking. I never developed it, so my general power is limited.

Smartphones have the huge advantage of direction sensors (3D magnetometer and gyro). I remember using apps like Google sky map (or something like that) way back in 2011 to look at satellites and planets.

Not sure if this is the app you were referring to, But Stellarium does exactly what you're describing.
